Jumbo mortgages are mortgages for loan amounts greater than the industry-standard conventional loan limits.  Conventional loan limits are based on property values and do not apply to all area equally.  Interest rates for jumbo mortgage loans may be slightly higher, and jumbo mortgage loans may require a slightly higher down payment, due to the increased risk to the lender.
